Ahoy Mates! I wish you all a Happy Summer, Happy Heat and a very Happy High Water Level. Now that the cool wet springtime has left us and the hot wet summer is here, I am thinking the every other day rainstorms can slow down any time now. Jeez at this rate we are gonna start growing webbing between our toes. Just another reason to wear toe rings, don’t ya think? Oh yeh, least I forget, Happy Birthday USA!
Well, just remember that when the sun finally appears, to apply your sunscreen and sun block to all the exposed parts of your body. Also, remember to reapply them every two hours because the sun and perspiration breaks the active ingredients down even on cloudy days. Clouds only block about 80% of Ultra-Violet light rays (both A and B).
Speaking of light, two Michigan Lighthouses are in the news. Grand Traverse Lighthouse is one of nineteen others that may be chosen by online election votes to receive free new windows. Only one will win the prize. You can read all about it and you can vote at http://www.jeld-wen.com/lighthouse/index_vote.cfm
Stannard Rock Lighthouse in Lake Superior now has equipment and instruments atop its 110-foot structure to measure the evaporation rate(s) of the lake water. NOAA and Environment Canada are hoping to find out how big of a puzzle piece this is to the water levels of all our Great lakes. As one team scientist said, “it’s like measuring the smoke that rises from a Birthday cake candle after it’s blown out”. Holy moly I say, good luck with that project, whew! If our government officials would just kill the bottled water industry within the great lake system that itself would stave off a whole lot of evaporation.
That’s it for now.
Casting off all lines. Color me gone.
